Offering an electric truck: align vehicle and charging plans
Prepare an electric truck offer with actual operating cycles, assessed charging opportunities and clear service boundaries.
A business asks you for a specific electric truck offer. Your advice can connect two decisions: which vehicle is being considered for the operation, and which actual charging plan supports the proposal? Customers need to understand the operational possibility they are buying. A single range figure cannot explain how routes, standing times and available charging opportunities fit together. That connection makes your offer understandable.
This is a distinct task for commercial vehicle sales. Prepare cooperation between the customer, vehicle specialists and charging partners actually involved. The result may be a specific offer with clarified conditions or a limited next investigation when charging is not yet decidable. This article concerns commercial preparation, with no electrical design, installation or safety instructions.
First choose an operation that can be described
Ask the customer to identify an actual planned vehicle cycle: where it starts, its stops and where it must subsequently be ready. Annual mileage provides a different perspective from this working day. Your team needs the connected operation. Have the responsible dispatcher explain it and record whether it already exists or is planned.
Add the variations that really matter: different return times, extra stops or different use on certain days. You do not need every imaginable extreme. Discuss the operational variants affecting the purchase. Specialists can assess those situations; a single favourable example route must not silently become an assurance about every future use.
Give specialists real operating information
Ask which data the responsible vehicle adviser needs. MAN’s eMobility consulting, for example, describes route analysis and scenarios considering payload, topography, auxiliary consumers and weather. This documents that manufacturer’s approach, without establishing suitable range for your customer. Suitability requires individual assessment for the actual vehicle and described conditions.
Mark information as measured, planned or estimated. Today’s operation may be reliable while an additional future route remains open. Separate them so your specialist knows the basis of the answer. Request specific missing information and identify who can supply it. Completing a worksheet gives an estimate no additional precision.
Distinguish standing time from charging time
A parked truck does not automatically have a confirmed charging window. Ask where it stands and what use of that place is actually possible. Is it your customer’s depot, a customer’s site or shared space? The route planner and the person controlling the location may answer different parts. Bring those answers together.
Refer the intended charging process for specialist assessment. Sales neither specifies electrical connection capacity nor declares a location suitable because a socket exists. First establish the charging opportunity being examined, who will answer and whether its requirements are known. A theoretical pause is planning information; actual clarification determines whether this proposal can use it for charging.
Give the depot project an actual owner
If customers want depot charging, ask its status: an idea, an appointed specialist or a specifically described offer? These require different next steps. A proposed installation is not an existing operational facility. Identify who actually leads the project and which response your vehicle team needs for the joint buying decision.
Discuss timing with both sides. Intended vehicle operation and confirmed provision of the necessary charging capability must fit this proposal. General lead-time information is insufficient. If confirmation is missing, leave that precise dependency open. Your business cannot promise others’ completion or a grid connection, but can explain why a specific responsible party’s answer is needed before a joint commitment.
Describe public charging through actual conditions
If customers plan charging en route, have the proposed options assessed for their operation. Which places are considered and which vehicle and access conditions are confirmed? A map marker is initially a research lead. Do not turn it into a general promise of accessibility, availability or suitable facilities. The assessed plan must concern the actual vehicle and described cycle.
Ask which real service agreement provides access. A manufacturer offering or charging service may have its own conditions. Have its responsible provider confirm scope before including it in your vehicle explanation. Do not transfer another provider’s network coverage or advertised service wholesale to your business. Customers should see what you sell and which separate agreement their planned use requires.
Present the vehicle and charging service side by side
Summarise the actual vehicle configuration offered. Alongside it, identify the relevant charging plan and its confirmed or open status. This is your own recommended offer overview, not a lead platform feature. The customer should understand whether they buy a vehicle, additionally commission a service you offer or arrange a separate charging project with someone else.
Compare offers on the same operational basis. If a vehicle was assessed for another cycle, explain that difference first. A rough infrastructure concept and an implementation offer are not automatically equivalent stages. Explain what each document answers. An apparently complete package is unhelpful if customers interpret unresolved site planning as a finished solution already included in the purchase.
A fictional delivery business has two return situations
An entirely fictional company considers an electric truck for regular deliveries. On some operating days it returns to its own depot; on other planned days the return location is undecided. Sales prepares two distinctly labelled situations with the dispatcher, without invented mileage or charging capacity. Specialists receive the information status assumed in this example for each situation.
For depot days, a named specialist will assess the planned charging opportunity. For the other situation, the business first decides its future operation. The vehicle offer can then reference the assessed use. A general range promise does not resolve the second cycle. This is neither a successful electrification story nor a guaranteed solution; it shows choosing a limited clarified use or first resolving an operational decision.
Include training and support only with real scope
Ask what introduction and subsequent support the customer wants to discuss. Pass these wishes to the actual providers. Training needs an identifiable audience and described content. Sales must not invent employee qualifications or safety authorisations. Responsible specialists determine necessary conditions and content individually. Include only what can genuinely be agreed and offered.
The same applies to ongoing services and workshop support. Describe confirmed scope and vehicle applicability. Make separate agreements visible. A familiar manufacturer name does not establish support at every location or desired time. For a specialist question, find the appropriate professional instead of universalising a general product description.
Discuss costs using actual offers
Customers want an economic understanding. Use actual vehicle and additional-service offers, keeping separate proposals recognisable. Do not invent a standard amount for an open item. If customers prepare an operational comparison, they should distinguish documented costs from their own assumptions. Explain your positions without inferring a general cost advantage of the powertrain.
Avoid blanket claims about grants, tolls, taxes or a guaranteed break-even date. If these determine the purchase, the customer needs current qualified assessment for their case. No such benefit is promised here. Assigning one unresolved cost to its responsible provider may be enough for the next step. Visible limits prevent planning with supposedly guaranteed savings.
Identify changes requiring reassessment
Another route, additional consumer or changed charging location may alter the assessment basis. Record the actual correction first and send it with the previous proposal reference to specialists. They determine which parts need reassessment. Neither restart everything without reason nor assume the old result covers a new use.
Preserve the previous version so customers understand subsequent changes. An answer for one vehicle must not silently transfer to another, nor a charging plan to another site without assessment. Clear association between operation, vehicle and charging project keeps advice understandable across several people and offer versions.
Before handing over to a colleague, check they can find the same operation version and charging-project status. Ask them to name the outstanding answer. Add the missing association before the next conversation. A full filing system alone does not establish a shared basis.
Agree the next genuinely decidable stage
Finish with a specific choice: pursue an assessed vehicle offer for a described operation, clarify a named charging question professionally or decide an unresolved business process first. Identify who prepares each reply and what the customer supplies. You need not promise complete fleet conversion. A limited next step can be exactly the progress today’s information supports.
Ask what the contact now understands as confirmed. Correct any confusion between an idea and an offered service precisely. Your vehicle business then connects expertise with a clear buying basis. Customers see the offer they can assess and the charging decision still outstanding. The path to an electric truck stays concrete while respecting its operational conditions.
Additional truck enquiries for your advice
The webRichtung truck page provides registration for new purchase enquiries. Electric configuration and charging infrastructure are not promised as separate order filters or verified enquiry details; clarify them personally. Set up the lead order in webRichtung Customer and see the current price before committing. Use new conversations for the vehicle and advice programme you actually offer.
